Marco has a master’s degree in employment, labor relations and social dialogue from Universidad de Castilla – La Mancha, Spain and a master’s degree in labor law and social security from Universidad Estatal a Distancia of Costa Rica. He is a former scholar of ILO’s Program of Latin American Labor Relations Experts, Universidad Castilla de la Mancha, Spain and Universitá di Bologna, Italy.

He currently serves as managing partner of BDS Asesores and director of the National Council on Salaries.

Marco has been recipient of several recognitions, including from Chambers & Partners which has ranked him as the most recommended labor attorney in Costa Rica from 2013 to date; also, Best Lawyers recognized Marco has 2015’s Lawyer of the Year 2015 in labor matters in Costa Rica.

Academically speaking, Marco has served as professor at the Law School of Universidad de Costa Rica and of the Master’s Program on Labor Law and Social Security at the UNED. Also, he has been a professor at the Diploma Course in Management and Labor Law at the INCAE Business School and has served as main teacher of the Executive Program on Labor Law and Human Talent Management at Aden International Business School.

He has penned a number of pieces (including: “El Teletrabajo,” [Teleworking] “Derechos Laborales Colectivos en el Sector Público  [Collective Labor Law in the Public Sector], and “101 preguntas frecuentes en materia laboral” [101 Frequently-Asked Questions on Labor Matters), as well as different works intended for the legal practice sector.

Marco has been a speaker at seminars and congresses on labor law topics, both locally and internationally; he is also a permanent collaborator on labor topics for the opinions section of the La Nación newspaper and for the elempleo.com section of said journal.  As an expert on labor topics, Marco is regularly consulted by different media outlets in Costa Rica.

Both a trailblazer and main author of  “The Labor Code in Costa Rica, updated trough the labor procedure reform” and author of the guideline book on Labor Law for non-legal professionals: “Todo lo que un Gerente debe conocer sobre el Derecho Laboral costarricense.” [Everything a Manager Should Know about Costa-Rican Labor Law] a required reading for Human Resources teams and managers.

In March 2022, the Professional Association of Journalists and  Mass Media Professionals of Costa Rica recognized Marco for his contributions to ensure that citizens exercise their freedom of speech under legal and doctrine concepts enabling them to assert their right to information.
